Literacy Development (Text message version)

As people use text messaging as a convenient communication tool, I made a text message version of my literacy development in learning American culture and English. This genre is similar to storytelling, which I adapted to a text message format as if I were talking to my friend about a literacy development scene.
If ‘affordances’ means that a genre allows audience to see what the writer wants them to see, this text message genre can show what happened and how I felt in my literacy development to my audience. Also, by showing that I was talking to someone else, I can show my audience that it was not a one way dialogue like a diary. The role of the recipient makes up for the objective view on the incident. On the other hand, the ‘constraints’ of a genre is that it limits to show audience what the writer intends to show them. Therefore, the constraints of this genre are that I might not be able to describe the literacy development scene in detail like in other genres, such as autobiography, cartoon, and movies.
